This year I did a math wall, where my students will learn, review and preview skills in Second Grade Math. It's an interactive way to get students to read and write during math time. I've noticed that many of my students were struggling in math and that was due to not being able to understand the language in mathematics. What do we, as teachers, do when a student doesn't have all the tools necessary to be successful? We teach! One of my best tools has been this Math Wall. We come together two to three times a week and we work with words, pictures, diagrams and manipulatives. The time here is very important in my classroom. The classroom rug would be a great asset in order to accommodate all my students in this focal point for instruction. I want to have enough room for easy access to the supplies they'll need, such as dry-erase markers, white boards and manipulatives.
