Donations will allow my students to have costumes for their community performances. These energetic students have worked hard researching relevant community topics, have trained and created a dance, spoken word and song performance and are dedicated to sharing their message in their communities. In this class we have partnered with the Social Studies and Health Dept. to give students a cross curricular understanding of global concepts such as child abduction. As well as the socio and emotional health issues and concerns related to a loss of a loved one. The knowledge these students are learning while they prepare for their performance is crucial. Thus, these costumes will give them pride as they go on stage sharing the gift of the arts and educating their peers and community on vital socio-economic topics. Performances such as this one allows student to build self esteem, self worth and empower themselves and others through this artistic creative process. The first performance will be on Thursday June 2nd. My students will present their piece entitled" Remember Me " dedicated to child abduction victims who have not yet been found. Students have incorporated statistics and precaution methods in which their peers can help prevent child abduction of themselves or love ones. The students will be performing for an audience of over 150 youths and community leaders. The students chose the topic for this performance, helped created the choreography and chose the music. The selection of costumes that we are asking was also chosen by the students.
