We will gather at the carpet a lot! Not for long periods of time because there is no way 6 and 7 year old can sit still for long, but frequently. In my district we use the workshop model, which means we gather at the beginning and end of every core subject. Having a carpet would allow my students to quickly find their spot and transition smoothly to allow more time for learning. The carpet has squares for students to sit on so they can monitor themselves with the boundaries that carpet provides for them and also feel comfortable not being squished. Also, the carpet will be comfortable to sitting bumpers; everyone loves cushion. The carpet will also give the students a sense of pride because of how great their classroom looks. Last but not least, their teacher will have an even bigger smile because she has piece of mind she has received from having orderly students.
