I tried flexible seating for the first time this year. I saw an immediate improvement in my students. They were able to choose where they sat as well as the type of seating. I have noticed an improvement in confidence, accountability, decision making, scores and behavior. They thrive when they make a choice they feel is best for them. My students don't get the privilege of making many decisions in their home lives. Many decisions are forced upon them and many things are out of their control due to the tough circumstances they face at home. Flexible seating has made such a positive impact on my students. I am requesting various seating options for my class that are not traditional seats. Ball chairs for the super active, wobble seats for those who like regular chairs but want a little wiggle room and floor mats for a more comfortable sit at the floor desk. I also am requesting a large lamp that will help us to stay calm and focused during independent work times.
