The main focus of this project is to bring the community together through the arts. I am building an art exhibit based on the visual arts for students and their families. The students will research their family history and culture. Families will be asked to help and will be invited to family studio night. My students will use the requested canvases, easels, and acrylics to create mixed media pieces based on their family history. They can use paint, photographs, wire, and anything to create works representing their family and culture. The mixed media pieces will also have a creative writing piece in which the families and their student will tell us, in a poem or story form, about their family. The creative writing pieces will be hung with each mixed media piece. There will be an art exhibit night inviting the community to the show. The families will also create a dish based on their culture. Each family will bring the recipe, and I will make copies so the families can exchange recipes. The show will be a night of great art, food, and connecting through community and culture.
