My gifted students attend one day per week for Project Based Learning units. My curriculum needs to be hands-on and differentiated from the regular curriculum. Each class will use several sets of trebuchets and catapults so small groups can construct their blueprint designs. STEM units of study are a great way to motivate students by providing a fun, exciting hands-on learning environment. Students will be launching projectiles, learning about levers, exploring how the fulcrum size and plank length will affect trajectory and distance. The small groups will have time to modify, retest, and troubleshoot their prototype. Then, let the competition begin to see which group has the best design!
