I am an avid reader myself and have recently become a fan of listening to books on tape as I travel. Being able to hear the descriptions and dialogue has helped me to visualize the books better. I believe that my students would benefit in just the same ways by being able to listen to various books on iPod devices. My students need iPod shuffles. Many first graders are not yet comfortable as readers, but being able to listen to good, fluent reading would help them to love reading more! Using outdated devices such as CD players or cassette players takes away from listening to books, and these iPods would be really exciting to them!
