The ongoing struggles that students face as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are evident every day in my classroom. Providing an engaging classroom environment is just one way to help students endure current challenges. My students love our new science curriculum, and I'm excited to bring materials into the classroom that will help them dive in and experience the curriculum hands-on. The energy sticks will allow them to test for conductivity when we study properties of matter. The ecosphere will be a huge hit when we study ecosystems, bringing the curriculum to life before their eyes. The technology items will bring an added element of engagement and interaction during instruction, particularly in math. Being able to interact with the lesson slides using the Apple pencil and sharing their strategies and work via the iPad camera is fun for students and encourages lesson participation. It also allows me to move about the room as I teach, taking my lesson slides with me, so that I can feel more a part of the classroom and a greater connection with the students as I teach. My hope is to provide my students with an engaging environment that distracts from the worries of the day as they find joy and excitement through learning.
