So I know what you're thinking. How can cutting boards and coffee tins help students experience and create music? Well if you add a tambourine and drum sticks you have a perfectly good drum set! These sets will be easily transported as I travel from class to class spreading musical joy! To complete these sets I will need cutting boards, tambourines and the resource book, Kidstix: Rockin' Repertoire for Rhythm Readiness! I have already acquired drumsticks from previous years and will get all the cans from the cafeteria here at school!
Music Education Legend Artie Almeida has created some of the best literature, ideas, and crazy outside-the-box creations for music education. One of her most ingenious ideas is called "Kidstix!" This music publication shares a guide to using these drumming sets as well as rhythmic literature, songs and concepts to be performed by the students!
Using the kid friendly drum sets students will gain a better grasp of rhythmic performance, grow their rhythmic vocabulary, and even be able to create their own compositions using these wonderful drum sets!
