One key to creating a successful learning community in the music classroom is assuring that all participants are seen and heard equally. Unfortunately, a square-shaped carpet greatly disrupts this basic need, alienating some students into corners, out of view and often unheard. The simplest solution to this problem is using a round carpet so students can be seated in a circle. Sitting in a circle ensures that ALL students are essential and equal members of the learning community. In addition, this particular carpet is an amazing learning tool in that it is decorated with musical notation, which can open up loads of musical experiences.
