My students are outstanding scholars. We are a building that is over 70% minority and over 75% free and reduced lunch. With our minority and economic status, many of my students come to school with a limited vocabulary and phonemic awareness for language. In order to get them reading and writing at grade level, as a team of teachers we are always creating and making language, vocabulary, and word work centers and pocket charts to improve their learning. My students are excited about school and work hard, but they come to me with a large achievement gap when compared to other students in our district.
