I currently serve nine students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a highly structured classroom. I serve students in kindergarten through second grade. Students who receive special education services have individual education plans (IEP). Students individualized education plans, emphasize the social-emotional needs these students have. By using an explicit and incidental teaching curriculum students will work toward their IEP goals in a systematic and methodical way. IEP goals are specific to each student. Some of the areas in which students are working on include: eye contact, whole body listening, joining a group, greetings, sharing, taking turns, understanding emotions and handling situations, and perspective taking.
