I know the lecture, assignment, lecture, quiz, lecture, test, routine has to get boring and tiresome for the students, just as it did with me. Due to lack of resources I find myself falling into that repetitive method and I want to introduce different modes of education to my students. By having things like an interactive board or document camera this will bring variety in the ways I can include my students into the lecture. Also, my classroom would liven up with new posters and supplies. Small things like manipulatives or even a number line can help so much with explaining concepts like negative numbers. A balance can help visual learners to understand solving equations. I truly believe it is the small sparks that can light a fire, and that is what I would like these materials for. As I've mentioned before, many of my students don't aspire to go to college. And even the ones that do, almost all have had to take remedial math classes just to get into a college algebra class. Getting kids involved early and having different ways they can contribute to the class will hopefully get them to take charge of their education. I feel it can have a huge impact on their lives outside of high school and hopefully break that cycle of the "I am not good at math".
