Hi. Thanks for taking a look at my page. I am an 8th grade ELA teacher in a low income middle school in Columbus Ohio. My students are the best kids but have the highest needs. Many times my students don't have enough to eat nor a roof over their heads. Reading is at the bottom of their needs list. however, reading can provide a means to escape and break the cycle that they were born into. Contributions of any kind can impact these kids for the rest of their lives. While my students come to me reading way below grade level, they have a lot stacked against them. I have found that to become better at reading, one has to read more. Having a rich library in the classroom that provides books to students that reflect their own experiences and lives in vital to excite and encourage kids to read. That is what I am trying to build. Thanks Mrs. Gurwin
