There are many activities that we do in class now that are helping my students learn how work on their own. Having different small group learning stations in the classroom is one way that we are working on becoming more independent and able to complete classwork at each child's specific level.
The students are becoming more confident, but it is something that we are constantly trying to work on. There are times when my students need their own space. Using personal dividers at our desks and tables would give the students the privacy that they need in those moments. Many of my students also benefit from being able to hear text. A listening center would be a great station for my students to be able to access text more independently.
Many of my students require movement and flexible seating. A soft reading area would be a great place for students to get more comfortable reading on their own. Using clipboards would also be a great way to be able to use the flexible seating area during instruction.
