I plan to use Chromebooks to engage students in writing and reading! Having worked last year in a classroom with a 1:1 ratio of Chromebooks to students, I have seen first hand the power that technology holds for facilitating learning in the classroom. Now that I have my own 7th grade classroom for the coming school year, I want to provide my students with the tools necessary to be successful. One of my favorite tools to use on the Chromebooks in the classroom is Google Docs. Using Google Docs, students can type their drafts, and I will be able to log in to annotate their writing using the Comment feature to give students feedback, revisions, and words of encouragement. This transforms the writing process into an open dialogue, as students can ask me questions and take ownership of their learning! I also plan to heavily use the Chromebooks for reading articles online. Students can annotate a shared article using Google Docs and Google extensions like Diigo. Students can see the comments, questions, and responses their peers are submitting to encourage collaborative learning. Other apps and digital platforms I will use include Google Drawing for students to creatively summarize, Google Slides, Peardeck, Kahoot, StoryBoardThat, and more. Chromebooks will be used extensively by students! All students deserve an opportunity to access technology that will help them develop 21st century skills. Modern technology creates a desire in students to write and make their writing better! My students are hard-working, bright, and excited to use technology! Help us get Chromebooks in our class so my students can be empowered to learn!
