Our fifth graders are verging on young adulthood and, as a result, are ready to take more responsibility for their learning. As a team, we work to give our students ownership through goal-setting, choice, self and peer assessment, reflection, and student-led conferences. Our entire school recognizes the importance of student investment in learning and my colleagues work towards this same goal in an age-appropriate way for their students. My grade level team spends most plan periods together trying to maximize our students' learning, working through issues, and finding ways to best support every fifth grader. We differentiate to meet the needs of all, not just struggling students, and we pride ourselves on this commitment.
