Our school is a Title I school. Over 70% of our students come from low income families. It is one of the larger school districts in this rural area of Illinois. We have a fairly even distribution of racial groups. Unfortunately, the area has a growing drug problem and few job prospects. The main employer in the area is a factory. Because of this growing drug problem, the community has seen an drastic increase in violent crimes. Most students have not ventured far enough out of the community to experience hands-on Science activities like those at the St. Louis Science Center. Our principal has used resources well and provided our students with enough technology that we are a 1-1 school. This technology (iPads/Chrome books) slides off of our standard desks on a regular basis.
