Many of my students live with single parents or grandparents. Some of them already work odd jobs at the age of 11 to be able to buy what they need. Most of them speak two languages. They are funny, determined, and street smart. They have great potential, but they struggle with lack of experiences and background knowledge. The majority of my students have never been on a vacation or traveled outside of the city. To stay safe most of them are confined to their houses and yards. Our school is striving to become more hands on and incorporate more problem based learning to add to our students' experience and thereby adding to their success.
