Some of my students come from families where both parents work and may be unable to help their children with homework because of limited education or language barriers. In addition, the children might not have had the opportunity to attend preschool prior to enrolling in kindergarten at our school. Their homes may not have many books. So when they enter school, their vocabulary and language development can be significantly behind their English speaking middle class peers. We use a lot of technology to allow individualization based upon the needs of our students. Our school has been designated as a "California Gold Ribbon Model School" for our innovative approach to educating our students. Also, we were just awarded the Title I Academic Achievement award by the California Department of Education.
