The morning activity bins will be used to jump start our brains every morning as students enter the classroom. These items will replace the paper/pencil morning work and allow the students to be creative, work collaboratively, and think outside the box. The goal is to create knowledge-ABLE kids who can take the basic WHATS and figure out HOW and understand and explain WHY. Your generous donation to our project will help students to become more critical thinkers by allowing them the freedom to explore math and reading concepts through play based activities. Students will rotate each morning through bins containing math or reading manipulatives. While students are playing they are engaging with academic tools in a non-threatening way. They can make new words with letter and phonics cubes, silly sentences with sentence puzzles, solve math problems with memory games and Connect 4, spark interesting stories with Story Dice, and make moving machines with Tinker Toys. In addition to the items I have requested, I have supplied geometric shapes for pattern building, geoboards for making shapes and letters, dominoes for sorting by sum or difference, Cuisenaire Rods for working with part/whole, dry erase boards/markers, and play money. I know my students will be so excited to start their day with the morning activity bins!!
