My classroom is an active learning environment for children who are 7 and 8 years old. When children enter my learning environment, they are entering a space that also belongs to them. Currently, our classroom looks like a traditional classroom with 20 desks, a computer workstation, and one kidney shaped table designed for small group instruction. Children currently participate in both whole group and small group instruction. My dream and goal is to reinvent the space in my classroom to make it more flexible for children to move about and collaborate in small groups. I want children to have the freedom to make choices about their learning environment with minimal support in order to increase engagement and time on task. I want students to interact with one another and feel empowered to be leaders in the classroom. I want them to be guided by my instruction but led by their curiosity and desire to learn.
