Though some think of kindergarten as a year of play, kindergartners actually work hard and learn a lot in a very short time. Children, with all their energy and enthusiasm, can not sit at their desks or be quiet all day. Kindergarteners move around the classroom many times a day. This requires groups and seating to be easy to move and mobile. Throughout the lessons, students work in pairs and small groups with whiteboards and markers, magnetic letters, and many kinds of math counters. Keeping these items organized and easy to use will be much more manageable with these surfaces. These mini desks will be used by every student in my class throughout the day. They will use whiteboards and markers to write letters and words; they will use cookie sheets and put them on their mini desks to spell words and as tables while they read books. During math they will use them as practice counting, identifying numbers and organizing shapes.
