Do you ever feel like you can't sit still and need to get your wiggles out? I know I sure do sometimes. I am a kinesthetic learner and often times, this learning style gets overlooked. In my classroom, I would like to have five Hokki stools to put at my horseshoe table where I teach small group reading. Hokki stools help young learners, and antsy adults, move to and fro while focusing on a task at hand. Research says that we need to give children the ability to move as much as possible not only to increase student engagement during the school day, but also because it is critical for physical and social development. I want my students to get minimum 60 minutes a day of active movement. My students have said they would like other seating options because they are filled with energy during our long afternoons and can't move in their stiff traditional chairs. I can't tell you how many times those little bodies fall out of their chairs because of their need to move and inability to in the traditional chair! As a class, we have discussed different seating options. These might include working on the floor with a clipboard, sitting on pillows instead of seats, crate seats, and a movement type of seat (Hokki Stool). The Hokki stool is such a clear choice to have in our learning environment! My students would be so happy to have them!
