This student centered project is inspired by my students' needs for hands-on and visual activities. Not all of the students are able to read or write. The materials requested in this will allow students to learn these concepts from first hand experience. It will also enable them to practice their reading and writing skills as well!
My students love to see science projects and enjoy experiencing things up close, The Microfarm Aquaponics Garden, seeds, and aquarium supplies will allow us the ability to not only eat nutrient dense foods like kale and other leafy greens, but also watch as the seeds grow. We'll better understand the farm to table concept. Students will also use the books Gardening Projects for Kids, Gardening Lab for Kids, and The Garden Classroom to access the plant information in a way that they can fully understand.
This project will give these students ownership of the information and make eating and growing these nutrient dense foods fun and entertaining. It will enable them to use materials to conceptualize this information and turn their ideas into products. This kid inspired project will teach nutrition concepts, botany, biology and overall wellness lessons with lessons that will be in our classroom and accessible every day!
