My students range in age from 12-21. Each student has special needs of some kind. My "special need" is for each of them to meet their greatest potential. Our program is a special education co-op that includes 5 school districts. Our schools are title one schools. There is very little funding. Many times we (special ed. teachers) will salvage materials being thrown away by the general ed. teachers. We have a total of 54 students, 2 PPCD classrooms, 2 intermediate life skills classrooms (grades 1-5), 2 senior life skills classrooms (grades 6- until aging out at 22). We can potentially have a student in our class for up to 8 years. We are a family. My students struggle to learn, which makes learning such a bigger success than most. These students deserve the opportunity to access tools that will help them reach their goals.
