Adults have the opportunity to move about their day as they wish. I believe that students should have the same flexibility. These desks will allow students to have the opportunity to sit or stand during instruction or while completing independent work. If adults were asked to sit still for 7 hours a day we would go bananas, so why should we expect children to be any different? I plan to use these desks as an alternative seating area. Students will still be able to sit at their regular desks, but use these desks to help when they are unfocused or need a change of atmosphere. These desks will be placed around the classroom with the intention of the student taking ownership for their own learning. They will have an option to sit on a yoga ball (already purchased) at the desk or simply stand and work. Students need options in their daily academic lives and these desks will make those options possible. I can't wait to see how this alternative seating can change the classroom dynamic in positive way.
