We are a Title 1 school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast. With a poverty level over 90%, our students often come to us hungry, tired, and in desperate need of love and attention. While many of them could easily give up, they hold a motivation to create for themselves a future in which they are successful. They do not want what they see around them, hopelessness, hunger, and need. Their aspirations vary. We have students who are working toward becoming marine biologists, serving in the armed forces, working on a cure for cancer, and of course becoming a professional sports star. They see a life in which they own homes, have families, and are truly happy. We, as teachers, work daily to instill in them a sense that regardless of their background, family, who is raising them, etc., all of them are able to succeed and achieve their dreams and goals.
