I work in an elementary school with children diagnosed with a variety of disabling conditions including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, cerebral palsy, spinabifida, and more. These children often have a strong desire to please their parents and teachers, however they struggle with finding way to do this in a highly structured academic environment that doesn't always meet their special needs. It is my privilege to be able to work with such students and find ways to overcome the obstacles that our current educational system poses. This can include everything from helping a child with autism communicate their feelings to a classmate, to assisting a child with cerebral palsy on using assistive technology to move about the school independently. Accompanying many of the above diagnoses are deficits with vision and motor skills, which also fall under my domain of expertise.
