Our students come from many diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Many of our students are English Language Learners and have completely immersed themselves into learning a new language. Our students mainly come from sections of Staten Island that have pockets of poverty. All students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school is part of the NYC Pre-K for All initiative. This is the second year this program has been implemented. As educators, we take pride in being pioneers of this new initiative; however, with the lack of materials, it hinders our ability to provide a quality pre-K program to all students. We work collaboratively to make it possible, but feel our students could achieve so much more with the necessary tools. We want our students to be prepared and successful in their future school endeavors.
