My students are from refugee camps in African countries. Some students were born in a camp. Consequently, cleanliness is super helpful to reduce student stress at school. In my classroom, students learn how to be worldwide citizens. One trait of a citizen is to have a clean, neat, safe place to learn. Class jobs are a big deal in our class. Everyone has a job to make our classroom run smoothly. One of our jobs is to clean our space. Since the school district does not supply our room with a vacuum, and we are short on custodians, it falls to the classroom teachers to clean. A vacuum cleaner would be a fabulous addition to our classroom. If this project goes through and we receive a new vacuum, I can then throw out my personal, old vacuum that is broken.
