The majority of my students come from lower economic, single heads of household families. Ninety-three percent of the students are on reduced or free lunch. There is a large percentage of the students being reared by grandparents. Despite their circumstances they have a desire to learn. The classroom is diverse with bi-racial, African-American, Hispanic, and Caucasian children. APA is a charter school with an urban population. The majority of the school's budget covers administrative cost. The sources are limited and the administration stretches the dollars and are good stewards of the funds. The parents are limited in their resources and the teachers go into their pocket to provide materials and a good educational experience. Despite all of this there is creativity and drive to provide needed materials for the classroom.
