I teach K-3 Physical Education at Jamaica Children's School in Jamaica, Queens. Our student population is: - 96% free lunch - 10% in foster care system - 5% living in shelters - 23% with special needs I teach each class at least two times a week where I aim to provide students with foundational movement skills that they need to be physically active. I also prioritize teaching health skills so that students value healthy eating and exercise as lifelong habits. Our school balances rigorous academics with hands on exploration and a focus on social, emotional and character development. For the third year in a row our students made an average of 1.4 years of reading growth in just one school year and earned "Highly Effective" on local and state measures in Reading and Math.
