As technolgy continues to be a part of everyday life for kids, so does the need to enhance learning. It's safe to say that kids are obsessed with iPads and tablets. Why not put that obsession to good use? As a reading teacher, I spend the majority of my time teaching in small group. It is important to have a variety of book options to keep students engaged. I will use the iPads to conduct guided reading groups and independent work. The iPads will have a much larger library to access than the classroom or our literacy library. It will also allow students the opportunity to write notes or highlight important information in the story, which increases comprehension. Evidence shows that children with cognitive delays respond better to iPad apps increasing language and other lifelong skills. In addition to reading, students will be able to use apps , such as, LetterSchool to improve handwriting skills that may otherwise not interest them. Students who' s motor skills need improving have difficulty working a mouse and keyboard and can often be too difficult to use. Using an iPad is something they will more familiar with and having all the components on one screen will be less frustating allowing them to focus on the academics. My hope is to making learning fun and engaging for kids and ultimately teach them the love and passion for reading a good book through exposure and quantity.
