Fifth graders are expected to maintain focus for a majority of the day. The use of balance balls helps increase focus in a fun and healthy way. My students would use these balls instead of traditional chairs to help improve focus by allowing muscle movement. Many of my students spend a majority of their time outside of school indoors playing video games or watching television. Imagine a classroom where students can move while learning. The use of these balls in the classroom would help strengthen their core muscles, while increasing their ability to sustain attention on important learning tasks. I would have my students use these balls daily in place of traditional seats to help promote exercise as a way to increase mental focus. My students are learning about Kinesthetic learning and many have recognized that they learn best when allowed to move around. My hope is that each student in my class will get a ball and look back on this year as they year they began full body learning.
