As the school psychologist, I work with a number of students for a variety of reasons. A major component of my job is to help students learn coping and social skills through individual and small group lessons so that they can be more successful in their everyday lives. While I can teach students skills to self-regulate emotions and behaviors in their classrooms, many students do not have access to sensory materials that they can use independently and without causing a distraction to peers. Sensory materials (like fidgets, wiggle seats, and elastic chair bands) can help students regulate their own emotions and behaviors in the classroom so that they can continue learning and growing with their peers.
