This year, eight teams of students competed in twenty three events at the Science Olympiad Northwest Regional level in March. We had more teams than any other school in the state! The next largest participating school in our state had only four teams. We tried to get two more teams because we had so many interested students, but funds and materials were limited.This next year we don't want to turn anyone away. Our students are successful because of the tremendous support they both give and receive. In addition to the multitude of hours they put in, students that have attended previous competitions also mentor first-timers. Many students also help with aspects other than competing in science events, including graphic design, social media, photography and filmmaking. Our kids learn to work together in a variety of different ways. Team leaders have to collaborate to form the teams and manage communication while leading the events. They've learned that good communication is a must.
