Preschool children love to pretend. They pretend to be police officers, fast food workers, moms, dads, even puppies and anyone or anything they have encountered, watched on TV, or read about in a book. It is important that the dramatic play area is colorful, inviting, safe and most impotently filled with materials that will allow students to be whoever they want to be.The dramatic play area encourages self-esteem, individuality and social emotional development through play. These materials will make a difference in my students because engaging in intensely imaginative activities based on knowledge children gain from books, movies, and other sources helps them meet developmental goals. The outdoor learning environment is just as important as the indoors. Another teaching goal is to continue encouraging their imagination, knowledge and self expression through play. These materials provide opportunities to extend lesson learned in the classroom and in other environmental settings. For some students, here at school is the only time this aspect of their lives is being fostered and I want their experience to be GREAT!
