Hi, I am a second grade teacher in a low socioeconomic neighborhood in WI. My students are curious, energetic, and spirited! This is my fourth year teaching at the elementary level. Prior to my current position,I taught social studies at the middle school level for 15 years. As an avid reader and traveler,I know how exciting it can be to learn about new places. As a teacher,I recognize the importance of providing powerful lessons that actively engage my students. Being a neighborhood school, the rate of free lunch at my school is 82%. My students have very limited travel experiences.Using various literature opens the world up to my class in many ways. We have read about famous civil rights leaders, authors, artists, educators, and many other inspirational individuals. Reading and using maps in my room has provided a glimpse of the exciting world outside of our classroom door.
