Every child is an individual learner and is different. If this is true, then why do we make them stay in one type of seating to learn? I have been experimenting with minimal alternative seating and now would like to go full speed ahead. The small changes in my class have been eye opening. I saw children who were reluctant to read, listen, or participate begin to open up or "bloom" because they were given a chance to sit in a comfortable environment that fit their personality. The students showed that with simple seating changes, learning could be a whole different world for them and me. I plant to use the rug for mini lessons and team meetings. The T stools will allow the students to have mobility when they have the wiggles. The cushions will allow the students to move to a spot that is inviting to them, while they are working on center or group work. Adding this seating to my class could make a huge difference in my alternative seating adventure!
