Most students after they finish a year of science or even a unit, will not go back and review the material that they didn't grasp. As the students enter my classroom, they pick up a "Do Now" that they glue into their composition notebook. The "Do Now" consists of three to four questions about content learned the previous year and completed units from the current year. The questions have them analyze data, apply their science knowledge and sometimes reflect on what is being asked. We learn as individuals by repetition, by getting it wrong, getting corrected at and doing it again. By gluing the daily sheets in their interactive notebook, they can always go back and refer to past questions when needed as a resource throughout the year. The oversized composition notebook allows extra room so that students can write comments on the side to where their misconceptions or confusions might be. At the end of the year, many students keep this notebook as a reference tool for high school and eigth grade.
