My 3rd graders are very energetic and enthusiastic learners. They learn best through movement, songs, and hands-on activities. Our elementary school is well above the state average of students that qualify for free and reduced price lunch at 58%. Many of them are unable to purchase the most basic school supplies. In order to include manipulative or projects we have to get very creative, making most of them ourselves from anything we can reuse from old shoe boxes and paper towel rolls, to empty food or drink containers. I've spent many hours cutting out paper circles, squares, rectangles, and bars to allow my students to explore fractions. They are very excited when performing activities with these homemade supplies, but it would be amazing to watch them utilize these well organized and professionally developed STEM activities which will encourage them to use science, technology, engineering, and math to solve real life challenges.
