We are the R.G. Glee Club. We began 5 years ago when I heard two students in my class sing. We are a group of 5th/6th grade students who meet everyday at lunch to sing together. Our group has grown in popularity (we are asked to sing at different events and schools) and it is have taken a life of its own. We currently have 43 students who participate in the Glee Club and this roughly 65 percent of the 5th and 6th grade population. We are considered a high poverty school with 89 percent of our students earning free and reduced lunch. This singing club is something the students look forward to and they are able to perform in front of other students and adults. We sing contemporary songs (this year we are singing a 90's montage of music, and TV theme shows). We have seen a reduced amount of detention at recess because of the Glee Club and I hope you will consider funding this project.
