When creating classroom centers for my kindergartners I want to be mindful of their age but also of the requirements of us teachers to teach more and more academics each year. I want to incorporate play aspects into my academic centers. When students feel like they are playing to tend to be more engaged. “Play is the only way the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold.” -Joseph Chilton Pearce I feel that creating centers in my classroom that not only teach my students the academics they need to learn but also feel like play will have the biggest impact on them because they will enjoy the work they are doing. I will use the book boxes to create leveled work for each of my students. Each child will have box filled with work, projects and books that are tailored to their academic ability level. The Legos will be used for my STEM centers. I really want to emphasize STEM into my classroom this year and I think a great way to start is by adding STEM type of centers. The large tweezers will be used in a fine motor center. Most kindergarteners are still developing their fine motor skills. When they come to school we, as teachers, tend to forget that and expect them to be able to cut, hold a pencil, etc. In using a fine motor center I can help build their fine motor skills.
