When I see a child with their head down or holding their stomach because they didn't eat dinner the night before, and didn't have breakfast that morning, it breaks my heart. How can I expect them to concentrate on their assignment with their stomach growling? There are too many students coming to school with these same issues. On a daily basis, we are finding that if snacks are in the room to help keep them attentive, not only are they focusing on their daily lesson, but they are receiving the benefits of higher academic achievement. A hungry child cannot learn. If I could provide snacks for my students during the day then at least I know they will be able to focus on their work and not be so hungry when they are in school.
