My students with special needs should have a place where they can go to calm down and/or to re-focus their energies. The swinging motion, plus the "hugging" feeling of a closed-in hammock-chair provide a calming environment for those who are about to reach their melt-down point. The balance board will provide students an opportunity to actively focus their mind and energy when they can't sit still in class or find themselves distracted. Any student who needs a "change of scenery" or calming environment, in order to get through the school day successfully, will benefit from these sensory elements. Students using these items can continue learning with much less stress, thus increasing and improving their educational opportunities.
