The books can be used at mentor texts with the various standards I address in fifth grade. It will also provide an opportunity for my students to hold the book in their hand and get in their "reading zone". My students are more willing to read when they get to choose the book. They also gravitate towards the newer titles available. The TIME for Kids magazines will be used in small group instruction focusing on current events and nonfiction text structures. With every student having the opportunity to access their own copy of the magazine, it allows ​me to use them independently or in groups. It will also give students an opportunity to highlight information that only pertains to that child.
