My school is in a remote area of West Virginia. The majority of my students have never played an instrument, and we do not have a band program. This equipment will be used with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, in addition to middle schoolers. Many of these students could be described as "rough" or "wild", but once they realize they can actually create something on their own with this new skill of reading and composing music, they seem to light up. It has taken some time for me to figure them out, but I realize this is a method that they really enjoy and benefit from. A 7th grade girl went home and told her mom, "I can play an instrument." Another class said, "We should practice and have a concert to show everyone." That is the joy of teaching!
