Hello! I am Mrs. D, a middle school special education teacher. I have been teaching for 23 years. Currently I am teaching students who are diagnosed with intellecutal disabilities. During the day, we work on daily living skills, job skills, and functional academics. When doing daily living skills, we focus on hygiene, cooking, and cleaning. During job skills, we work on activities that help develop independence in their home and in the community. I currently have 8 students on my caseload. They range from high functioning autism to nonverbal students who are functioning at an 18-month old level. Due to this range of ability levels, we have to use many different techniques, strategies, and resources to help the students succeed. Teaching is one thing I am very passionate about. The students I work with are my family. I want to help them succeed not only in school, but in the community.
