I have had the privilege of teaching the same students for two years in a row, by looping from 4th to 5th grade with them. We are a level 5 school, 93% high needs students who are considered 88% economically disadvantaged. We have a 39% ELL, and about 20% students with disabilities population. My specific students fit all of this criteria, and then some. However, my kids have the kindest hearts, and go out of their way to help one another, and adults. Teaching fourth and fifth grade to the same group has helped me become a stable person within their lives, and most of my students need that stability. We have a safe and welcoming environment, that allows all students to learn and grow as they are all there for the same reason. Many of my students do not have any source of educational technology at home, so by giving them the opportunity to have some in the classroom, I am helping their minds grow in different ways they didn't even think about.
